NATURAL SCIENCE- UNIT 5- MATTER AND MATERIALS
Paper, metal, plastic, cotton, glass and wood are different types of materials.
Natural materials come from plants, animals or the ground. Man-made materials are made by humans.
Wood is a natural material. Plastic is a man-made material.
Materials have different properties: hard/soft, opaque/transparent, rigid/flexible... Metal is attracted to magnets.
Some materials float and some sink. Waterproof materials don´t let any water through.
Mass, volume and mixtures
Objects and materials have mass and volume.
Mixtures can be homogeneous or heterogeneous.
We can change materials by heating, cooling or bending them.
We can combine different materials to make things. Our houses are made from different materials.
We use different materials for different things.
