SOCIAL SCIENCE- UNIT 2- OUR WORLD

Globes, world maps, maps and plans are different ways of representing our world.

The Earth is a sphere that rotates on its axis.

The Equator divides the Earth into the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere.

The cardinal points are north, south, east and west. The Sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

Seven continents

On a globe, continents are the easiest things to spot.
A continent is a large solid area of land.
Earth has seven continents. In order from largest to smallest, they are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia. Australia is part of a larger area called Oceania. It includes many islands in the Pacific Ocean.

We live in Spain. Spain borders two countries. Countries have different shapes and sizes. Maps show us where countries are.

Spain borders Portugal in the west and France in the north. It's surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, the Bay of Biscay and the Atlantic Ocean.
